Bringing a computer in

A few things that make it faster:

  • Bring the charger with any laptop. We can’t test it properly without one.
  • Bring the password — the Windows or Mac login. We can work around it, but it costs time you’ll be billed for.
  • Write down what it’s doing, and when it started. “It’s broken” and “it freezes about ten minutes after I open Outlook” lead to very different diagnoses.
  • If you suspect a virus or a scam call, switch it off and leave it off until you get here.
  • If a drive has failed and the data matters, don’t run recovery software first. Bring it in as it is.
