Computer and laptop repairs for Doncaster, done on our own bench a few minutes down the road in Donvale.
Computer Age opened on Doncaster Road in East Doncaster in 1995. We moved the workshop to Mitcham Road in Donvale in 2000, but a good share of what lands on the bench still comes from Doncaster, Doncaster East and Templestowe — often from people whose parents were customers first.
Drop the machine in during opening hours. No appointment, no booking system, no call centre. The technician who diagnoses your computer is the one who repairs it, and you get a fixed price before any work starts.
What we fix for Doncaster customers
- Won’t turn on — power faults, failed power supplies, dead batteries, charging ports
- Won’t boot — failed drives, corrupted Windows or macOS, boot loops, blue screens
- Screens — cracked panels, dim or flickering displays, dead backlights, hinge damage
- Slow performance — the most common complaint we hear, and usually the cheapest to fix
- Overheating and noise — blocked fans, failed cooling, thermal paste, shutdowns under load
- Viruses, scam pop-ups and hijacked browsers — cleaned out, then locked down properly
- Keyboards and trackpads — dead keys, liquid damage, unresponsive trackpads
- Lost files — dead drives, corrupted cards and deleted photos, recovered where they can be
- Liquid damage — bring it in switched off, and don’t try to charge it first
Worth repairing, or worth replacing?
A lot of the computers people bring us from Doncaster don’t need replacing at all. A five-year-old laptop that takes three minutes to open a browser is usually a mechanical hard drive doing what mechanical hard drives do. An SSD and a memory upgrade will often make it quicker than it was when it was new, for a fraction of the price of a new machine.
Sometimes it genuinely isn’t worth it — a cracked screen on an old budget laptop, or a board fault on a machine that owes you nothing. We will tell you that. Some of our best customers over thirty years are people we talked out of spending money.
Every brand that comes through the door
Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, MSI, Microsoft Surface and Apple, plus the machines we build ourselves. Windows and macOS, laptops, desktops and all-in-ones.
Nothing gets couriered interstate. The workshop is behind the counter in Donvale, so your computer — and everything on it — stays in Melbourne’s east the whole time it is with us.
What it costs
The workshop inspection is free on standard drop-in repairs. We look at the machine, work out what is actually wrong, and ring you with a fixed price. Nothing goes ahead until you say so, and the price you are quoted is the price on the invoice.
If a job needs a paid assessment — some data recovery and liquid damage work does — we will tell you before we start, not afterwards.
Frequently asked
Do I need to book?
No. Drop in during opening hours and leave it with us. There is a counter, a person behind it, and a workshop behind them.
How far is the workshop from Doncaster?
We are at 63 Mitcham Road, Donvale — a short drive from Doncaster, Doncaster East and Templestowe, with parking at the door. Most people drop off on the way past.
How long will a repair take?
We usually diagnose the same day and ring you with a quote. Common jobs — drives, memory, screens, virus clean-ups — are often done within a day or two once approved. Parts we have to order take longer, and we will tell you up front.
Will I lose my files?
Not if we can help it. We back up what we can before we start, and we will tell you before doing anything that risks your data. If the drive has already failed, bring it in before trying recovery software yourself — that often makes things worse.
Do you look after businesses in Doncaster too?
Yes. Servers, networks, workstations, Microsoft 365, backups and cyber security for small businesses across Melbourne’s east, with on-site help when it is needed.
